Hamill, Iowa, September 5, 1882, and after an illness of thirteen and one-half months entered quietly into rest from all her sufferings, Saturday, October 7, 1916, in Salem Township, at 11:50 a.m. at the age of 34 years, one month, and two days. Hamill, Iowa, September 5, 1882, and after an illness of thirteen and one-half months entered quietly into rest from all her sufferings, Saturday, October 7, 1916, in Salem Township, at 11:50 a.m. at the age of 34 years, one month, and two days. At the age of five she went to live with her Aunt Hattie Wright, with whom she lived until her marriage in West Point, Iowa, to the Rev. Benjamin Berryhill September 9, 1903, then pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Gerard, Illinois. At a youthful age she united with the Mt. Hamill Presbyterian Church where at all times she was an active and willing member, for a number of years she was the organist. Her nature was naturally of a friendly disposition. She loved friends and wherever she went in girlhood and womanhood always had a large and appreciate circle. As a daughter, sister, and niece she was at all times loving, devoted and thoughtful of the interests of her loved ones to the sacrifice of her own feelings. As a pastor's wife the real beauty of her Christian character was manifested. In the great multiplicity of duties, whether pleasant or trying, she was always the same loving pastor's helper. In social circles or the sick room her cheerful smile was always welcomed. As one aged one expressed "Her laugh makes me forget". As a wife always tender and loving. She always tried to make home life one continuous "honey moon". Her two strongest talents of usefulness seemed to be as a leader of young people, either in work or mirth. And as a teacher in the Bible School she developed tact and earnestness of marked ability. Besides a large circle of friends at each place of residence, she leaves her aged father and mother, seven sisters, two brothers, and a number of uncles, aunts and nephews; her husband, and an aged mother-in-law whose testimony is "I never had a daughter until she came. I cannot ask one better or more thoughtful." A brief service was held at the house, after which funeral services were held in the Methodist Church on Monday at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. E. B. Smith of Memphis, Missouri, who is a close personal friend of both families. He was assisted by Rev. Gray of the Congregational Church and Rev. Ward of the M.E. Church. The pallbearers were Messrs. Joe Newby, Johnson Caldwell, Clyde Bell, Bert Griffith, Bryce Pease, Walter Vegalius. Interment was made in the Friends Cemetery. -- Salem Weekly News, October 12, 1916, page 1.
