The Geneva Gazette 22 January 1897 Front page ALSO: Maude Frances Hafer was born on the 19th day of October, 1885, and died of that dreadful disease, diphtheria, on the 21st day of January 1897, aged 11 years, 3 months and 2 days. Little Maude was the possessor of a bright, sunny disposition and was a source of joy and inspiration not only to her parents, but to all her young friends. She was a general favorite and one of the brightest pupils in school District No. 65, where she was a most regular attendant and will be missed by her teacher and sadly missed by all her young schoolmates. But in the home circle is where she will be the most sadly missed, it will be a long time ere the heart broken mother and father can accustom themselves to her absence. She was taken sick on the 10th and all that medical skill and good nursing could do was done, but of no avail. At about 5 o’clock in the evening of the 21st she passed away. She leaves beside her heart broken parents, a young brother and numerous relatives to mourn her loss. The interment was at the Geneva Cemetery, January 23rd and was private, only the very near neighbors and friends being present. Rev. P. H. Hines conducted the services.
