Funeral services were held last Thursday at the Lima church. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Maude Solomon, daughter of Julius and Lena Lembke Solomon, was born January 19, 1897, in Fayette County. She attended country school near Lima. She was baptized in the Lutheran church, Sumner. She was united in marriage to Walker Briggs on Oct. 13, 1918. To this union was born six children, James, Ross, Paul, Jerry, David and Ida. She spent many hours working for the Lima Cemetery Assn. and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge. In 1950, she was chosen Mother of the Year. Preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers, one sister and a son, Jerry, who died in April of 1963. Survivors include her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Sid (Ida) Tope, West Union; four sons, James, Des Moines; Ross, Soldier; Paul, Fayette and David, Mound, Minn.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
