Description	:	Maurice Alvord Gilbertson was born September 27, 1913, the second child of Arndt and Alma (Marken) Gilbertson at their Norway Township Farm. He was educated at Pleasant Valley School. On March 2, 1940, he and Corinne Schilt were united in marriage in Sioux Falls, SD. He farmed with his brother and best friend, Arnold, until retiring in 1978. He and his wife remained on the farm until 1989 when they moved into Canton. Corinne passed away in March 1990 and Maurice continued to live in their home until late 2002. Read More	Maurice Alvord Gilbertson was born September 27, 1913, the second child of Arndt and Alma (Marken) Gilbertson at their Norway Township Farm. He was educated at Pleasant Valley School. On March 2, 1940, he and Corinne Schilt were united in marriage in Sioux Falls, SD. He farmed with his brother and best friend, Arnold, until retiring in 1978. He and his wife remained on the farm until 1989 when they moved into Canton. Corinne passed away in March 1990 and Maurice continued to live in their home until late 2002. He was a life-long member of Lands Lutheran Church, having been baptized and confirmed there. He held several offices in the church and was a frequent usher. He enjoyed his family, friends, farm, baseball, bowling, and woodworking. Many family members and friends enjoy and appreciate pieces of furniture, clocks, and his infamous oak breadboxes. He was also a member of the Canton Senior Citizens Center and King Olaf Lodge of the Sons of Norway. Maurice passed away on Easter Sunday morning, April 20, 2003, at the Canton Good Samaritan Center, having reached the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 23 days. Grateful for having shared his life are: his three daughters and their spouses- Barbara and John Roe of Apple Valley, MN; Joanne and Philip Swenson of Rochester, MN; and Patricia and Virgil Stensland of Sioux Falls, SD, seven grandchildren- Eric Roe and his wife, Sonya, Matthew Roe, Bradley Roe, Kristin Swenson, Katherine Swenson, Chad Stensland, and Kyle Stensland; two great-granddaughters-Corinne and Camille Roe; one brother, Arnold and his wife, Vera, Canton, SD; one brother-In-law, Dwaine Lindner of Sioux Falls, SD; five nieces and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; Corinne; and infant son; sister, Esther; brother, Luverne; sisters-in-law, Mildred Gilbertson, Betty Lindner, and Bette Schilt; brother-in-law, John Schilt; and one niece and one nephew.
