Funeral services for Te Paske have tentatively been set for 11 a.m. Friday morning at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Te Paske's death occurred while he was attending a week-long continuing education session in Iowa City. He apparently drove to Des Moines for some reason Tuesday night. “According to the coroner's report, which was relayed to us this morning, witnesses said that he had gradually pulled the car over to the side of the road and when they went to help, he already had passed away," Sioux Center city administrator, Darrell Rensink, reported Wednesday. "He apparently felt it coming on." Te Paske, known to many simply as "Maury", served as mayor of Sioux Center for 34 straight years, from 1940 to 1973. He was active in many church and community affairs. Te Paske was on the local hospital board. He was a member of the Consistory at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, where he was an elder. Te Paske was a past member of the board of trustees of Northwestern College. He served on many state and national boards. He was also a past president of the Iowa League of Municipalities. "What can you say, except, wherever the action was, that's where Maury was and any project, virtually, that came along, he either was in it or right behind it," Rensink said of Te Paske. Rensink, a 19-year employee of the city of Sioux Center, a close friend and associate of Te Paske, described Maury, "He was a dynamic person, a leader of men and truly a community leader." Te Paske is survived by his wife, Vera, and others. Sioux County Index 1976-07-15.
