Maurice James was born on March 5, 1927, in Holland, Minnesota, the son of John M. and Winifred (Juffer) Vande Berg. He was raised in Sioux Center, where he graduated from the high school. Vande Berg March 5, 1927 - August 24, 2017 Mr. Maurice "Morry" Vande Berg, age 90, of Orange City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at the Orange City Area Health System. Maurice James was born on March 5, 1927, in Holland, Minnesota, the son of John M. and Winifred (Juffer) Vande Berg. He was raised in Sioux Center, where he graduated from the high school. He also attended the National Business Institute in Sioux City. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On March 25, 1949, he married Norma Arlene De Zeeuw in Sioux Center. They made their home in Sioux Center, where he was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for 36 years. Norma passed away on August 6, 1985, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On June 12, 1986, he married Hildred Huisman Pluim in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City, where he enjoyed all sports, but especially golfing. He also liked following his grandchildren's activities. Survivors include his wife, "Hilly"; a son, Dr. Kevin Vande Berg, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two grandchildren, Dr. Austin Vande Berg, of Omaha, Nebraska; and Anna, and her husband Chad Prescher, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; four step-children and their spouses, Linda and Robert Hulstein, Daniel and Belinda Pluim, Lisa and Kevin Tesch, and Dale and Jill Pluim, all of Orange City; thirteen step-grandchildren; 25 step-great-grandchildren; and a sister and her husband, Audrey and Bing Rens, of Escondido, California. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dr. Leah Vande Berg; a son-in-law, Dr. Nicholas Truijllo; and three sisters and a brother and their spouses, Alice and Joe Sandbulte, Jean and Peter Visser, Ted and Esther Vande Berg, and Joan Harmelink.
