He passed away September 15th 2019 in Bonaparte, Iowa. He was raised in Bonaparte, Iowa and the family later moved to Basco, Illinois, where he graduated from Warsaw high school in 1965. On December 14, 1974 he married Charlotte Mae Mellinger. They had two daughters, Misty and Carrie. Maurice and Charlotte made their home in Bonaparte, Iowa. He owned and operated his own welding and repair shop, as well as raised cattle. Maurice and Charlotte were married for 34 years before Charlotte passed away on April 29, 2008. One of his greatest joys in life was Sprint car racing. He spent many years working on Sprint cars and later watching races. In addition, he enjoyed square dancing, fishing, hunting, and spending time in nature. He was devoted to his wife, family, and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by daughters Misty (Rich) Haskins of Keosauqua, Iowa and Carrie Cummings (Chris Jackson) of Marathon, Iowa. Brothers Bob (Ty) Cummings of Basco, Illinois and James (Robin) Cummings of Robinson, Illinois. Sisters Ellen Coultas of Charleston, Illinois and Cara Sue (Matt) Finton of Warsaw Illinois, mother-in-law Letha Mellinger of Keosauqua, Iowa, sister-in-law Sherry (Tom) Christy of Bonaparte, Iowa, brother-in-law Gary (Lois) Mellinger of Bonaparte, Iowa, grandchildren Russel Pilcher, Dallas Pilcher, Hope Haskins, and Lilly Haskins all from Keosauqua, Iowa, Cathy Cockrum of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Kendall (Jeff) Leonard of Vivalia, California, and Keith (Jen) Haskins of Tallahassee, Florida as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother-in-law Kent Coultas, niece Laura Diane Cummings, father-in-law Russell Mellinger, and nephew Daniel Christy. On Tuesday, September 17th a dinner will be provided at 4:00 p.m. at the Bonaparte Opera House with a visitation to follow from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bonaparte Methodist Church. A private burial will take place at a later date.
