Maurine was born June 10, 1920 at the home of her parents, Ed and Martha (Hansen) Norman, east of Centerville, SD. Maurine attended rural Joy school and graduated from Beresford High in 1938, then completed nurses training at Lutheran Hospital, Sioux City, IA, graduating in 1941 with her RN degree. Maurine was born June 10, 1920 at the home of her parents, Ed and Martha (Hansen) Norman, east of Centerville, SD. Maurine attended rural Joy school and graduated from Beresford High in 1938, then completed nurses training at Lutheran Hospital, Sioux City, IA, graduating in 1941 with her RN degree. She worked there as the Evening Supervisor from 1941-1942, Gen. Duty Nurse at Evanston Hospital, Evanston. IL 1942-1943, Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD 1944-1945. In 1945 she joined the Navy Nurse Corp and was stationed at San Leandro Naval Hospital in San Leandro, CA till 1946. From 1946-1949 she was charge nurse of the surgical floor at Sioux Valley Hospital. Sioux Falls, SD. Maurine faithfully served her church family for many years. She surrendered her life to Christ in 1932, was confirmed in 1934, was baptized in 1937, and became a member of Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church of Beresford in 1943. She held various leadership positions during many years of serving with the Women's Missionary Society. Her willingness to give of herself led her to serve eight terms in the role of deaconess. For the past ten years she hosted a weekly Bible study in her home where she mentored other women into a deeper relationship with the Lord. On February 11th, 1949, she was united in marriage to John Wesley Fahlberg. They made their home in rural Beresford where God richly blessed their marriage with four children. Her passion was her family, both immediate and extended. She is remembered as a diligent homemaker, patient teacher, loving parent, faithful wife, gracious hostess. The experiences of her younger years, during times of war and economic depression, formed many of the values and ethics she has passed on to the next generations of her family. She is survived by her husband Wesley, one daughter, and two sons, five grandchildren, two sisters, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Daphne, her sister Leona, and her parents.
