Mavis was born on April 24, 1931, the daughter of Harry and Bertha (Scott) Eddy in Rhodes, Iowa. She graduated from Rhodes High School. On October 1, 1950, Mavis married Lawnie E. Brown at the Rhodes United Methodist Church. They were the parents of four children, Teresa, Gwen, Susie, and Ron. Mavis worked as a file clerk at Fisher's in Marshalltown for 24 years before retirement. After retirement, she volunteered at Salvation Army in Marshalltown for several years. Mavis was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday school with puppet ministry until it closed, and then became a member of First United Methodist Church of Marshalltown. She enjoyed gardening in her flower garden, crafts, and spending time with family. You would always find Mavis smiling, positive, and ready for a new adventure with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Teresa (Herb) Arney of Albion, Iowa, Gwen Moats of Grundy Center, Iowa, Susie (Martin) Herold of State Center, Iowa, and Ron (Laura) Brown of Omaha, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Allan (Carol) Eddy of LeGrand, Iowa; a sister, Leola (Larry) Wright of Ackley, Iowa; and four sisters-in-law, Lola Ruby of Lincoln, Nebraska, Lucille Buffington of Laurel, Iowa, Alice Vodochodsky of Merritt Island, Florida, and Nancy Robinson, of Marshalltown.
