Description	:	I've never discovered what the "L." in Mavis's middle name stood for - possibly Leona after her maternal grandmother, though that is conjecture on my part. My favorite memory of her was when I and my brothers (aged about 6 to 10) were riding in the back seat of her car in Redfield. She pulled up to a four-way stop which had a policeman in the intersection directing traffic. After waiting for a while Aunt Mavis stuck her head out of the window and hollered "What's the matter honey, not getting any lately?" We kids were absolutely mortified that she just insulted a cop, knowing we'd be arrested and go to jail. The policeman turned around with a very angry and shocked look on his face to see who had the audacity to say such a thing. When he saw it was Mavis, he started laughing so hard he fell to his knees, and from his knees began wildly waving us through the intersection yelling "get the Hell outa here Mavis, you're killing me". Tubandt, 72, Redfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1996, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Thelen Funeral Chapel of Redfield. The Rev. Tim Fugman will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery near Tulare. Mavis L. Harford was born April 20, 1923, to John and Wilkie (Collins) Harford in Athol. She attended Redfield schools and was employed at South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield for 22 years, retiring in 1985. She married Lyle Tubandt on Nov. 15, 1944. They farmed near Tulare for several years before moving to Redfield. He died in 1977. She enjoyed bird watching and spending time with friends playing bingo and cards. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Maurice (Ramonda "Tootie") Hargens of Miller and Mrs. Jim (Jody) Weisflock of Redfield; three sisters, Gladys Royce of Miller, Dora Erickson of Redfield and Dorothy Oliver of Macks Creek, Mo.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and three sisters.
