Description	:	Mavis M. Reed McAlister, 86, of Vevay, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, in Vevay. She was born Nov. 4, 1924, in Switzerland County, the daughter of Harry and Mabel Bennett Reed. She was raised in Switzerland County, where she resided most of her life. She was employed with the U.S. Shoe Factory in Vevay, retiring in 1986, after 32 years of service. After she retired, she was employed with the Indiana Mercantile and volunteered for the Switzerland County Historical Society. She attended the Vevay Church of the Nazarene. She was born Nov. 4, 1924, in Switzerland County, the daughter of Harry and Mabel Bennett Reed. She was raised in Switzerland County, where she resided most of her life. She was employed with the U.S. Shoe Factory in Vevay, retiring in 1986, after 32 years of service. After she retired, she was employed with the Indiana Mercantile and volunteered for the Switzerland County Historical Society. She attended the Vevay Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed painting, crafts, woodworking, playing the piano and playing euchre. She also enjoyed crocheting afghans. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Firth of Center Square and Debra Hite of Vevay; four sons, Larry McAlister of Indianapolis and Gary McAlister, John McAlister and Tony McAlister all of Vevay; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester L. McAlister, whom she married Dec. 20, 1941; one son, Paul David "Mush" McAlister, who died July 28, 2007; her parents; one brother, Meridith E. Reed; and two grandsons. The funeral was at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery. Madison Courier 2/9/11
