Description	:	MAX O. STEFFEN Max Steffen, 89, passed away at Clarinda Regional Health Center in Clarinda, Iowa on Saturday, June 7, 2008. Max Oliver Steffen was born September 27, 1918 near Randolph, in Riley County Kansas, to William Steffen and Emma Louise (Schrieber) Steffen. He attended country school through 8th grade and then quit school to help on the family farm. In 1940 he married Eulah Leigh Schrader, daughter of Henry and Gladys Schrader. Read More	MAX O. STEFFEN Max Steffen, 89, passed away at Clarinda Regional Health Center in Clarinda, Iowa on Saturday, June 7, 2008. Max Oliver Steffen was born September 27, 1918 near Randolph, in Riley County Kansas, to William Steffen and Emma Louise (Schrieber) Steffen. He attended country school through 8th grade and then quit school to help on the family farm. In 1940 he married Eulah Leigh Schrader, daughter of Henry and Gladys Schrader. They farmed many years in southwest, Iowa until 1965 when the couple purchased the general store in Guss, IA. Their services included hauling livestock and grain and selling feed and hardware. Max and Eulah raised four children, Valgene, Wesley, Zelda and Eldonna. They sold the store and retired to Cass County in 1982 where the couple lived until 2007 when they moved to Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda, IA. Max, in his love for the Lord, had a number of spiritual priorities in his life that he practiced and shared with others. Each of his children are grateful for the spiritual learning that was taught. There are many memories of special activites with young people, hay rides, special days on the farm, letting the kids help with Vacation Bible School locally and in neighboring places, making hundreds of plaques of plaster, helping with the witness of the gospel in the Mayflower converted country school house, attending Bible conferences and taking others to hear the Word of God. Max is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eulah; his son Wesley Steffen (wife Mary Anna) of Wheaton, IL, his daughters, Zelda Headley Birge of Corpus Christi, TX, Eldonna Tyler (husband Leonard) of Katy, TX, and daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Steffen, of Clarinda, IA, widow of son Valgene, and two brothers Donald Steffen (wife Virginia) of Griswold, IA and Calvin Steffen (wife Phyllis) of Griswold, IA. He has 13 grandchildren: Janice Samford, Karen Davidshofer, Linda Poore, Marletta Helms, William Steffen, Philip Steffen, Anita McKenna, Mark Steffen, Deborah Levy, Daniel Headley, David Headley, Ryan Tyler and Stacey Tyler; 19 great grandchildren: Devyn Samford, Eric Samford, Ashley Davidshofer, Haley Davidshofer, Levi Davidshofer, Lindsey Poore, Jacob Poore, Abigail Helms, Emily Helms, Hannah Helms, Clinton Steffen, Rhyana Steffen, Janelle Steffen, Ashley Steffen, Ryan Steffen, Drew Levy, Lydia Headley, Micah Headley, Noah Headley; and great great granddaughter, Andralynn Woods. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Valgene; two sisters, Berniece Jones Rodgers and Phyllis Knuckles; and an infant brother. Funeral Information His funeral will be held at Roland Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 10, at 10:30 A.M. His committal service will be in the Weirich Cemetery, Lyman, IA. There will be open visitation and Max's family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, June 9.
