He attended school in Beaver Crossing and graduated in 1946. Max joined the Army in 1946 and served as a corporal in the First Station Hospital in Kwangju, Korea. He married Opal Pankoke on April 4, 1949. Their union was blessed with four children: Marsha, Debra, Craig, and Barbara. Read More	Obituary courtesy of the York News-Times and Metz Mortuary (published May 7, 2014): Max was born to Greed and Gladys (Gentry) Clark in Beaver Crossing. He attended school in Beaver Crossing and graduated in 1946. Max joined the Army in 1946 and served as a corporal in the First Station Hospital in Kwangju, Korea. He married Opal Pankoke on April 4, 1949. Their union was blessed with four children: Marsha, Debra, Craig, and Barbara. The family moved to York in April of 1955 where Max worked as a bricklayer for several area contractors. In 1978, he started his own contracting business. He enjoyed fishing and traveling with his wife. They managed to visit 49 of the 50 states. He also enjoyed playing cards, reading, Husker football and word puzzles. Max was a member of First United Methodist Church for 59 years. During this time, he served on the Board of Trustees, was an usher, member of the United Methodist Men, and volunteered in many other capacities. Max was also a member of the American Legion and for many years was in charge of the York Honor Guard. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Opal, daughters and families- Marsha and Debra; and son Craig and his family. He is also survived by son-in-law Roger, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister Doris, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Max was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Barbara, infant grandson, Matthew; son-in-law Robert; brothers Gerald, Warren, Willard,and David and sisters, Joan and Carolyn. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at York's Greenwood Cemetery.
