Description	:	Maxine M. McLaughlin, 95, a resident of the Meth-Wick Community,died there Friday, April 3, 2009, following a short illness. Born the daughter of Samuel Stuart and Ella Kenyon Menefee on September 23, 1913 in Centerville, Iowa, she was married to Howard A. McLaughlin in Ottumwa on December 20, 1937. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1993. She was a graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1931 and the University of Iowa in 1935. McLaughlin, 95, a resident of the Meth-Wick Community,died there Friday, April 3, 2009, following a short illness. Born the daughter of Samuel Stuart and Ella Kenyon Menefee on September 23, 1913 in Centerville, Iowa, she was married to Howard A. McLaughlin in Ottumwa on December 20, 1937. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1993. She was a graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1931 and the University of Iowa in 1935. Following graduation from the University, she was employed as a physician's assistant in Ottumwa until her marriage. Following the war, Maxine and Howard moved from Los Angeles to Omaha, where Howard was a realtor and where their son was born in 1948. They moved to Cedar Rapids in December 1954, where Howard was sales manager with the Skogman Company. Maxine was manager of the Coe College Bookstore from 1964 to 1971. As a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, Maxine was active, having served as Sunday school superintendent, and held several offices in the Presbyterian Women's Association. She became a trustee, and later an Elder as well as Clerk of Session at the church. She was a member and past president of the Cedar Rapids College Club, the Cedar Rapids-Marion Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae Association, the Wednesday Shakespeare Club, and Chapter JT of PEO. Her hobbies included writing, reading, golfing, oil painting, needlework, playing bridge, and enjoying the fellowship of her many friends. Maxine's family wishes to thank Dr. Mary Ann Nelson, Hospice of Mercy, and the staff at the Meth-Wick Community for their Loving Care of Maxine. Surviving is a son John of Cedar Rapids, daughter in law Gena McLaughlin, 2 granddaughters, Victoria (Chad) Chihak of Denver, Iowa, and Meredith (Matthew) Finnie of Boston, Massachusetts, 2 great grandsons Riley Chihak and Bradley Chihak of Denver, Iowa, 2 sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Casady of Cedar Rapids, and Myrna McLaughlin of Monticello, and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families, all of whom were dear to Maxine. They will long remember her for the work she did on family history, which blended a far-flung family of many members into a close-knit one, although separated geographically. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday in Central Church of Christ with Dr. Terry Seufferlein officiating.
