The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, September 7, 1989; pg. 8 ======================= May Pearl DeHart, daughter of Samuel J. and Alice McMichael Alspaw, was born May 17, 1903, in a sod house with a dirt floor near Farnam, Nebraska. She died unexpectedly September 6, 1989, in her home in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 86 years. At the age of three years the family moved by covered wagon to Nuckolls County where they made their home. She attended a rural school near Nelson. On October 26, 1921, in Nelson she was united in marriage to Frank C. DeHart. They lived and farmed near Nelson for many years. May was a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson at the time of her death. May loved flowers and gardening. She and Frank raised large vegetable gardens on which they survived when times were hard and the droughts struck. She always had pet cats and dogs as companions. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Frank on August 28, 1989. Survivors include a niece, Gretchen White of Superior; three nephews, Jack DeHart of Deweese and Merle and Homer Seefeld, both of Nelson; cousins and many friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 6, 1989 at 2:00 p.m. from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson with Rev. Royce Buchtel officiating. Music was provided by organist Myrtle Worley playing a selection of "How Great Thou Art." Casketbearers were Gordon Farver, Mick White, Gary Blevins, Tom Wilson, Milton "Bud" Ferebee and Jerry Drohman. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery.
