Description	:	Services were held Friday, Aug. 23 at First Baptist Church for Mayona Day who died after a three year struggle with cancer. She attained the age of 85. Mayona Day was born on the Jerry G. and Anna Bossman family farm south of Lennox. She moved to Sioux Falls and married Max R. Day and settled in to become a loving wife and homemaker. Mayona Day was born on the Jerry G. and Anna Bossman family farm south of Lennox. She moved to Sioux Falls and married Max R. Day and settled in to become a loving wife and homemaker. In the early 40's she was the winner of the home of the year "The Hollywood House". In the 70s she and Max started Great Bear Ski Valley. Mayona was an active volunteer serving on many boards, including Sioux Valley Hospital Auxiliary, United Commercial Travelers, Independent Order of Foresters, and the El Riad Hospital Auxiliary. First Baptist was Mayona's church home over a 63 year period and she served as Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess, and State and Local ABW Ministries Leader. She was known in the community as a Book Reviewer and with her daughter; she did humorous programs throughout the area and was active in the Alta Petens Study Club. She enjoyed reading, writing, speaking and playing bridge with her many friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Marian, 17 days prior, a sister Frieda, a brother Gerald and her mother and father. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her only daughter and son-in-law, Marlys and Del Kroon of Sioux Falls; granddaughters, Kristie Kurtenbach and her husband Terry, Juliana Bjorklund and Kara Manuel and her husband, Tom and six great-grand children who called her Grandma goose; her sister Fannie Straatmeyer, her brother George Bossman and nieces and nephews across the country.
