Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of the late R. T. Smith and daughter of the late Charles Valentine Pierce and Dora Reynolds Pierce. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and member of Little Memorial Baptist Church. She loved cooking, sewing and gardening. Read More	Gaffney, S.C. - Mealzie Pierce Smith, 88, formerly of Gaston Shoals Road, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Peachtree Centre. Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of the late R. T. Smith and daughter of the late Charles Valentine Pierce and Dora Reynolds Pierce. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and member of Little Memorial Baptist Church. She loved cooking, sewing and gardening. Surviving is a son, Mitchell Smith and wife, Teresa, of Gaffney; two daughters, Glenda Patterson and husband, David, and Margaret Patterson and husband, Jerry, all of Gaffney; thirteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Marshall Smith and several brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2014 at Little Memorial Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Church with Rev. James Humphries officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Alzheimers Association, 901 S. Pine Street, Spartanburg, S.C. 29302 or Little Memorial Baptist Church, 427 Victory Trail Road, Gaffney, S.C. 29340.
