Description	:	Retired construction worker R.T. Smith, 83, of 107 Gaston Shoals Road, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at his residence. A native of Lavonia, Ga., he was the husband of Mealzie Elizabeth Pierce Smith and son of the late Marion Smith and the late Ethel Penny McCullough. He was a member of Little Memorial Baptist Church and a retired construction worker. He was a veteran of world War II. Read More	Retired construction worker R.T. Smith, 83, of 107 Gaston Shoals Road, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at his residence. A native of Lavonia, Ga., he was the husband of Mealzie Elizabeth Pierce Smith and son of the late Marion Smith and the late Ethel Penny McCullough. He was a member of Little Memorial Baptist Church and a retired construction worker. He was a veteran of world War II. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Teresa Smith of Gaffney; two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Jerry Patterson and Glenda and David Patterson, all of Gaffney; three brothers, Marion Smith Jr., Zane Smith and Eugene Smith, all of Gaffney; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Marshall Smith; three brothers, Otis Smith, Howard Smith and Charles Smith; and sister, Edna Smith Runyans. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. James Humphries, Rev. Jerry Patterson Jr. and Robert Smith. Pallbearers will be Robert Smith, Rev. Jerry Patterson Jr., Davis Patterson Jr., Ronnie Blackwell, Randy McDowell and Steve Holmes. The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 at Gordon Mortuary and at other times they will be at the residence.
