Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the chapel of Metz mortuary with Rev. Wm. Hage of the Presbyterian church the officiating minister. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery. (March 2, 1945 York Republican) _____________________________________________________________________________________ OBITUARY Medora Ellis Medora Cathryn Whitemore, daughter of John E. and Mary Allen Whitemore, wass born March 23, 1855, at Joliet, Ill., and passed away at the home of her daughter,Mrs. E. N. Henson, at York Neb., Febr. 24, 1945, at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and one day. In September 1874, she was united in marriage with William Henry Ellis and came to Nebraska as a bride, settling on a farm near McCool Juntion and lived here throughout the pioneer days. It was her privilege to bear nine children, of whom all are living save one, Mary Etta. She was also preceded in death by her husband, April 4, 1926. For many years thereafter, she maintained her own home, but because of failing health, went to live with her daughter, Mrs. E. N. Henson, about nine years ago. This mother is survived by eight of her children. Melvin S., Leslie G., and John B., all of York county; Estella Wheeler, Nellie Morain, and Hattie Henson, all of York; Mrs. Ethel McCormick, of Bedford, Ia., and Myrtle Millholen, of Loveland, Colo.. There are 20 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. Home is not my home, Mother is not there. Dark is her room, Empty is her chair. Angels have taken her, Out of our care. Lifted her over life's golden stair. Sleep mother, sleep, With your hands upon your breast. Poor weary hands, They needed rest. We have loved you, But God loved you best.
