Description	:	Melchior Figi, son of Adam and Sarah Figi, was born at Luchsingen, Switzerland, March 21, 1865. His death came suddenly on Monday morning, Nov. 13, 1933. At the age of fifteen he came to America alone to make his home with an uncle, Tobias Speich, who resided on a far in York county. His death came suddenly on Monday morning, Nov. 13, 1933. At the age of fifteen he came to America alone to make his home with an uncle, Tobias Speich, who resided on a far in York county. He completed naturalization on Dec. 2, 1899, the earliest possible data. On Dec. 1, 1888, he was married to Abbie Hanna [sic] Clark, the daughter of Frederick Henry and Lucy Clark. To this union were born three daughters, Sarah Grace, Lucy Ann and Anna May; and two sons, Frederick Adam and Robert Melchior, all of whom with their mother survive. There are seven grandchildren. During childhood, he was confirmed in the German Lutheran church; in 1905, he united with the Sutton Congregational church, the beginning of active years in church and Sunday School. He was a member of the Masonic order and the I.O.O.F. In public life, Mr. Figi served several terms on the board of education, was councilman three terms and a short term as mayor. He was a director of the Sutton Cemetery Association and treasurer of the Sutton Red Cross Chapter. After farming a number of years, he moved to Sutton in 1895 and engaged in the merchantile business until 1921; later, he was vice-president of the Sutton State bank for eight years; the past several years were spent with the retired interests. The funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon during a period of business quiet from 2 to 4 o'clock. After the home service at 2 o'clock, the funeral party come to the Congregational church, where more than a capacity number of friends awaited. Rev. A. W. Lapthorne, pastor, read selected verses from Psalms, 90 and 91st chapters, followed by a brief tribute to Mr. Figi's loyalty and christion character. Rev. H. W. Cox of Franklin, a former pastor and close friend of the Figi family, gave the main funeral talk. With Miss Gwen Weber accompanist. M. V. Conn sang "Face to Face," and a quartet, G. E. Swanson, O. P. Kohler, O. B. Whitlock and Emil Kohler, sang "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross." The honorary bearers were J. C. Olinger, F. H. Hanke, W. F. Griess, H. J. Bauer, Wm. Gellatly and J. B. Scott. Active R. J. Buck, W. F. Hoerger, R. M. Mecham, N. G. Bender, Ed Kirchhefer and John Heinz. The services at the cemetery were conducted by Sutton Lodge, I.O.O.F. The floral tribute was impressive.
