Description	:	Maybell was arrested for killing her husband. In 1914 James Zimmerman was found beaten to death in his barn. Maybell said a bum attacked her and killed her husband. No bum was found and the evidence seemed to point to Mrs. Zimmerman as the killer. She was arrested, but released for lack of evidence. He was murdered in the barn last night; and now you've been detained, And taken to the courthouse; where you're going to be arraigned. There were many reasons given, and many stories told. He died in 1914; still the story's not grown cold They drive down highway 89; Say, "Look; Old Maybell's Place" While they enjoy our family shame; horror scars my face. If you did it, why'd you do it? I love you anyway! You're my Grandma Adie's sister; it's for your soul I pray. I can't bear to believe it; please say it isn't true! Aunt Maybell, did you murder him? My God, what did you do? And Uncle James, did you not leave her, a single way to go? Did you beat her, or enslave her? Please say it isn't so! They say that you were kind, and fair; would never steal a dime. Montana didn't know it, Indiana: you did time. You're the brother, to my Grandpa George; it's for your soul I pray. I love you; my dear uncle; though you sinned along life's way. Was it just cold blooded hatred? Was that all she had left? Or did she live long years with pain, that plagued her dying breath? The story goes that on that night; she murdered Uncle James But Judge Bender ruled, they lacked the proof, and couldn't make such claims. Only James and Maybell know the truth about that night, Please, Dear God, forgive them, only You can set things right. This Montana heat is harsh and dry, and I can scarcely breathe. But I'm stuck here in this grave yard; I can't bring myself to leave. Bitter tears dry on my face, pain cuts my heart like sin. I can't hate either one of you; I can't despise my kin. Whose grave shall I leave flowers on? Who'll have my loyalty? I haven't any answers, nor do answers I foresee. We do good deeds, and then we sin; we miss God's Heavenly Aims. Red roses for Aunt Mabel and Blue Bells for Uncle James. Dear 'Find a Grave friend, James and Mabel were my great-aunt and my great-uncle. James was my great-grandfather's brother and Mabel was my great-grandmother's sister. I was so upset by the stories that I heard when I visited Emigrant that I ended up writing this song.
