MELISSA HALL Melissa Angeline Holmes was born December 8th, 1824, in Jackson county, Indiana. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harriet R. Riddle, of Cedar township, February 23, 1911. She was married to Reazin A. Hall, May 11, 1853, and they removed to Lucas county in the fall of the same year. Four children were born to them, one son and three daughters: William A. Hall, Mary E. Duckworth, Harriet R. Riddle, and a daughter who died in infancy. There are 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. The husband preceded her to the other world, March 17, 1862, and Mrs. Hall lived a widow for over 49 years. She became a Christian at the age of twenty years, and lived a faithfull member of the Church of Christ for 66 years, though cut off from attending the service. She died in the faith of Jesus Christ, longing to be at home with the Savior, the tired and weary body at rest. The story of her life is a story of hardship, privation and unselfish devotion. The sorrow among the friends and neighbors is deep and sincere; hers was a long life of service, and service rendered in the name of Christ, and therefore her reward is sure. The service was conducted by Rev. C. C. Davis, of the Christian church of Chariton, and interment was at the Allen cemetery, north of LaGrange.
