Description	:	Melissa E. Scott Mrs. Melissa Scott passed away very suddenly at her home last Friday, June 22. She had not been sick at all except during the night she complained about not feeling very well and about 5 minutes later she dropped over unconscious in death. Previous to that night she had apparently enjoying her usual good health! She had been habitually living alone but fortunately her sister from away was visiting her at her death. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Baptist Church. Interment was made in Riverside Cemetery. Melissa E Cuddy Scott was born May 23, 1847 near Wiota, Wisconsin. In 1865 she moved with her people to Iowa. The following year she married LaFayette Scott and went to live at Scott Ford, near McIntire. There Lennah, their first child was born. In 1869 they moved to the farm home, where their two sons, Charles and Andrew were born. After 32 years of struggle with the prairie, they moved to the home on the county line. Her husband died there the next year, so soon afterward she moved to Riceville where she lived until her death June 22. Although not a member, she attended the Baptist Church and called it her home. She was one of the best of neighbors and an unfailing friend in time of trouble. Many times she left her work to go to the care for a sick neighbor or to comfort someone in sorrow. She was of a cheery disposition and loved company. It was a source of great delight to her to show her friends her paintings and fancy work. She loved everything beautiful and good. Besides a host of friends who will miss her, she leaves a sister, Mrs. Traver of Wichita, Kansas, two children: Mrs. Frank McInroy and Charles Scott, of Riceville, her other son having died soon after she came to Riceville: 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Dearest Mother, how we miss thee, In our broken band: Miss thy voice so full of sunshine And thy helping hand. Oh, the world knew not thy value! The shady paths thy feet have trod. Led thee by the quiet waters Ever thinking of thy God Rest in peace our dearest Mother, All her earthly cares are over: Gone from us who held her dearly Here on earth to meet no more.
