She had lived in Ontario six years. Mrs. Wise's husband David, died in 1905. Surviving Mrs. Wise are five daughters: Mrs. W. O. Hankins, Cottage Grove, Oregon; Mrs. W. L. Secklin, Pasadena; Mrs. N. A. Purdy, Ontario; Mrs. A. D. Burress, David City, Nebraska; and Marion Wise, Escondido. Funeral services will be tomorrow at 10:30 o'clock at Draper's Chapel, with interment at Mountain View Cemetery, Pasadena. Dr. Clyde Crist, of Ontario First Methodist Church, will be officiating minister. ******************************************************** IN MEMORIAM: MRS. MELISSA H WISE Mrs. Melissa Hurst Wise was born at Indianapolis, Indiana, December 4, 1839. She passed away at Ontario, California, November 13, 1928, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. N A Purdy, where she had made her home for many years. Melissa Hurst Louthain was married to Thomas J Smith in 1860. To this union were born four children: Clara J, Marion, Samuel E, and Mary Aletha. Three of these children survive their mother, the father having passed away in 1867. Mrs. Smith was then married to David Wise, and to this union, three children were born: William B, Margaret Laverna, and Frances Nellie. Two of these children survive their mother, the father having passed away in April 9, 1906, at Overton, Nebraska. She had been a member of the Methodist Church from early childhood and lived a good Christian faithful life. She was loved by all who knew her. She retained her faculties until the last. Her age was 88 years, 11 months, and nine days. The surviving children are: Marion Smith, Escondido, California; Mrs. Aletha Seckler, Pasadena, California; Mrs. Clara Hankins, Cottage Grove, Oregon; Mrs. Nellie Burress, David City, Nebraska; and Mrs. Margaret Purdy. Funeral services were held from Draper's Chapel, Ontario; the Rev. Clyde Monroe Crist, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. The interment was in Mountain View Cemetery, Pasadena. The songs sung at her funeral were her favorite hymns: "Saved by Grace" and "Home for the Soul". [Son Samuel E Smith was born/died 1865; Son William S Wise was born 1876, death date unknown but was before 1880.]
