Melita was born March 29, 1918, in a sod house 7½ miles west of Hazelton, the daughter of Christof and Sophie (Renz) Fischer. She was raised near Hazelton and attended school in a one-room country schoolhouse. She moved into the town of Hazelton in 1940, where she worked as a housekeeper. In 1947, she tested her wings by moving to Salem, Ore., where she found work in the Gladiola fields and at a cannery. She returned to North Dakota and worked as a dishwasher and waitress in Bismarck, then moved back to Hazelton to care for her ailing mother. While living in Hazelton, Melita worked at Fode's Super Value and General Merchandise until she married Edwin Renschler in July of 1953. Melita and Edwin were married by the Rev. A. J. Fischer at the Baptist Parsonage in Linton. They began their lives and family together in Sterling, where they farmed until 1969. They then moved to Bismarck, where Melita worked at St. Vincent's Care Center until her retirement in 1980. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, listening to music and singing. She appreciated antiques, enjoyed collecting them and sharing the memories that they held for her. Melita's passion was her garden, her collection of flowers included tulips, irises and roses. She was always willing to share her horticultural knowledge with anyone who shared her interest in plants. Her soft laugh, sharp wit, and the twinkle in her eye will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. Melita is survived by her son, Larry Renschler (Michael Walsburg), St. Paul, Minn.; five nieces; two nephews; and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin; baby daughter, Gloria; two brothers, Fredrich and August Fischer; two sisters, Amelia Schlittenhardt and Alvina Allerdings; three infant siblings; and a niece, Violet Houn. A very special thank you for the loving and gentle care Melita has received at the Sunrise Cottages of Bismarck.
