Description	:	Conde — The funeral for Melvin B. Rossow, 89, of Conde will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the United Methodist Church in Conde. The Rev. Lyla Siebrecht will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen with Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel in Groton in charge of arrangements. A prayer service will be at 7:30 tonight at the funeral chapel. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel in Groton. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church in Conde. He died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at his home. Melvin B. Rossow was born May 4, 1911, to Ferdinand and Anna Rossow in Brown County. He attended rural country grade school and graduated from Groton High School. While in high school he and his [twin] brother Marvin, played basketball for the Groton team, which went undefeated for three years in a row. Following school, he helped his dad farm in the Stratford area. He married Helen Borwell on Feb. 22, 1936, in Aberdeen. They lived on the Rossow farm until 1937, when they moved to Minneapolis, where he worked in the shops of the Twin City Transit Company. In 1946, they moved back to Stratford, where he farmed for four years. They then moved to Conde. In 1961, they moved to a farm near Conde. In 1967, they moved back to Conde, where he lived until his death. He was a member of the Conde United Methodist Church. He enjoyed listening to Major League Baseball’s Minnesota Twins on the radio, and playing cards. He was known for his quick wit. Survivors include one son, Robert (Mavis) Rossow of Conde; one daughter Janet Rossow of Conde; one brother, Harold Rossow of Groton; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers and one sister.
