Burial was in Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home in Sidney. Ler was born in 1921 in Savage, the son of Iver and Hilma Ler. He was raised in that area where he attended rural school. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 where he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He returned to Savage after his discharge in 1945 and in 1951 he married Vera Madson at Sidney. They made their home in the Savage area where they farmed for a time and later he worked for Elwood Prigan. In 1965 he opened Ler's Garage in Savage which he has owned and operated and in 1970 moved it to the present location. Melvin had also driven school bus for the past 25 years, and served as the activity bus driver in Savage. Melvin died January 5, 1981 at the V.A. Hospital in Miles City. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Savage, and a member of the Volunteer Fire Department for 18 years; He was also a member of the VFW Post 4099 in Sidney, Surviving him are his wife; one son, Steve of Savage; one daughter, Mitzie Ler of Savage; one grandson; cousins, Harold Arnie and Eva; two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Andrew. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery in Savage.
