Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice, NE. Melvin D. Ideus, 77 years of age, of Beatrice, NE. passed away at the Beatrice Community Hospital in Beatrice, NE. Friday morning, March 24, 2006. He was born on November 3, 1928 in Beatrice, NE. and lived in the Beatrice area his entire life. He served his country in the United States Army from August 1, 1950 until July 31, 1953. While serving in Korea he was involved in the battle for Heartbreak Ridge and received a Purple Heart for his injuries. He and Josephine Jurgens were married on April 10, 1955 in Beatrice, NE. He was employed at the Beatrice State Developmental Center for 28 years from 1961 until he retired due to ill health in 1989. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice, NE. and a life member of the Geddes-Thober Post #1077, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Beatrice, NE. He enjoyed building model airplanes, watching T.V. (especially westerns), listening to music, and playing cards. Survivors include his wife Josephine L.; son Wayne Ideus and his wife Patti of Lawrence, KS.; 3 grandsons, Aaron, Nathan and Joshua Ideus, all of Lawrence, KS.; 2 brothers Vernon Ideus of Beatrice, NE. and Delmar Ideus and his wife Shirley of Odell, NE.; and sister Lois Fossler of Beatrice, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents Siebend and Sena (Giesman) Ideus; and an infant sister. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice, NE. with Reverend David Kramer and Reverend Joann Kramer officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice, NE. Military graveside services will be provided by the Bitting-Norman Post #27, American Legion in Beatrice, NE. The body will lie in state from 1-9:00 Monday and from 9-9:00 Tuesday at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, NE. and at the church one hour preceding the funeral on Wednesday. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. Wednesday at the church. A memorial has been established to the families choice with the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, NE. in charge. Messages of condolence may be sent to [email protected], They will be forwarded to the family. The Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice is in charge of the services.
