His dad found him - he had fallen into a stock-watering tank. All of us were heart broken. SMALL CHILD DROWNS IN TANK Between 7:30 and 8:00 o’clock Sunday evening, August 6, 1933, little Melvin, the twenty month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hoobler who live about thirty miles to the northwest of Sargent was drowned in a water tank located something like one hundred feet from the house. Mr. Hoobler went to the well after a pail of water for the house and the little child went along with him. When he got the water he said to the child “come on” and went back to the house supposing it was following as it always had done before. After a few minutes the child was missed and search for it was made and the little body was found in the tank. The supposition is that while the father was getting water, the child had looked into the water tank and saw it6s reflection in the still clear water. Instead of following Mr. Hoobler when he spoke to it, it remained there to investigate. As it would put its face closer to the water the reflection came closer to it. The result was the child lost its balance and fell in. The funeral was held at the Congregational church at Taylor at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon, the sermon being preached by Rev. Craig, pastor of the church. Interment was made in the cemetery at Moulton. Leo Hoobler is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hoobler. Mrs. Leo Hoobler was formerly Miss Ester Wells and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lew Wells, both deceased. Mrs. Lew Wells was a sister of William Bitter of this city. Mrs. Hoobler is a sister of Earl and Lee Wells. Besides its parents the little child is survived by a sister Eunice about thee and a half years old, and many other relatives.
