The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, May 10, 1979; pg. 12 ===== Melvin George Wagner, second of four sons born to George and Mary Hoffman Wagner, was born February 16, 1909, at Davenport, Nebraska. He passed away at the Thayer County Hospital in Hebron, Nebraska, at the age of 70 years, two months and 19 days, on May 5, 1979, after an illness of ten days. As a young boy living on his parents farm south and east of Oak, Nebraska, he attended Blue Valley School. He has been involved in farming his lifetime, living on the same farm that was originally purchased by his Wagner grandparents 98 years ago. He was baptized May 26, 1971, in Davenport and has faithfully attended the Methodist Church. Melvin was interested in the history of his family and community. He spent many hours helping restore the Mt. Zion Cemetery which was established 100 years ago this May, and is the burial site of his grandparents, parents and brother. He enjoyed visiting historical sites and museums, riding his motorcycle, working with gasoline engines and being a helpful neighbor and friend. His cheerful visits to family members and friends will be greatly missed. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Woodrow and Howard. Survivors include his brother, Donald, and wife, Veda, of Clarkston, Washington; sister-in-law, Mrs. Howard (Evelyn) Wagner of Clay Center, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, cousins and many neighbors and friends. Funeral services were Wednesday, May 9, at the United Methodist Church in Davenport with the Reverend C.J. Willis officiating. He was laid to rest in Mt.
