The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, April 30, 1931; pg. 5 Woodrow Wilson Wagner was born in the farm home south east of Oak, January 28, 1919, and passed away April 25, 1941, being 12 years, 2 months, 27 days old. He was the third son of George and Mary Wager (sic). Since he was born during the administration of Ex-President Woodrow Wilson, he was name for him. Like his parents and three brothers, he was always good-natured, quiet and unassuming. Because of these traits he was well liked by all who knew him, including his school mates with whom he never had any trouble. Woodrow had almost completed the Seventh grade in school when he became ill. He early learned to help his father and brothers in the field work, not from necessity but because he liked responsibilities and was proud to be trusted. It was not an accident that Woodrow was the clean, fine boy that he was. The writer remembers an incident he saw one winter evening when he called at the Wagner home. The parents and four boys were sitting or reclining about a cozy fire and discussing in a quiet and interesting manner the events of the day. The scene was suggestive of peace and genuine fellowship. During his illness Woodrow was cheerful, courageous, and uncomplaining to the end. He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, his brothers Melvin, Donald, Howard and wife; several uncles and aunts, many cousins, (one of whom was an inseparable companion) and a host of friends. He leaves his misery and suffering forever, but parts with us only temporarily that he may enjoy far more interesting experiences and responsibilities in the Great Beyond. The funeral was held at Oak M.E. church (sic) Tuesday afternoon and burial at Mt. Zion cemetery (sic) southeast of Oak, near his home. CARD OF THANKS. We wish to thank our neighbors and friends for their kindnesses and beautiful flowers during the illness and at the death of our dear son and brother, Woodrow.
