Sprang of Bryant at the DeSmet Memorial hospital Monday evening at the age of 45 years. Funeral services will be Friday, June 26 at 2 p.m., at the Spirit Lake Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Martin F. Gruneich will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Donald Freeman. Burial will be in the Spirit Lake Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion. Active pallbearers will be Edward Poppen, Ben Poppen, Calvin Poppen, Henry Poppen, Arnold Poppen, and Delmar Cramer. Honorary pallbearers will be Edgar Spieker, Marvin Sprang, Harold Whirledge, Francis Olson, Arthur Poppen and Oliver Seefeldt. Friends may call at the Ketelsen Funeral Home until noon Friday or at the church from 1 until 2 p.m., Friday. The casket will not be opened following the funeral service. Mr. Sprang was born October 24, 1919, the son of John M. Sprang and Dena Poppen Sprang, near DeSmet, where he grew to manhood and lived all of his life with the exception of a period spent in the armed services. He graduated from Willow Lake high school in 1938. On June 5, 1941, he married Esther Marie Solberg. After spending three and one-half years in the Army Air Force, he returned to establish a farm home in the Spirit Lake vicinity, where he has continued to reside with his family until his death. Mr. Sprang was an active, life long member of the Spirit Lake Presbyterian Church, and a member of the John Fonken American Legion Post No. 113. He is survived by his wife, four children, Robert, age 21; Marjorie, age 18; Kenneth, age 12; and Michael, age 2; his father, one brother, and three sisters.
