Melvin James Aspengren, was born in Boone, Iowa, on March 20, 1932, the son of Carl and Lorena (Koppenhaver) Aspengren. He was raised in Logansport where he spent most of his life. Read More	Melvin Aspengren, age 83, of the Westhaven Community and formerly of Logansport, passed away January 28, 2016, at Westhaven. Melvin James Aspengren, was born in Boone, Iowa, on March 20, 1932, the son of Carl and Lorena (Koppenhaver) Aspengren. He was raised in Logansport where he spent most of his life. Melvin attended Pleasant Hill and Logansport country schools and graduated from Boone High School in 1950. During the Korean Conflict, he served with the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 with the 24th Infantry Division in Japan and Korea. On August 9, 1958, Melvin was united in marriage to Katherine 'Kay' Narey in Boone. Following his service duty, Melvin worked as a bookkeeper for the Boone Farmers Coop Elevator for 25 years. He then worked as a custodian at United Community School for a year and then for 12 years, worked as a custodian for Bryant Elementary School, retiring in 1994. Melvin enjoyed spending time with his family, carpentry work, farming, working on machinery, and feeding and watching birds. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Carl Aspengren; and sisters Rosemarie Aspengren, Ruth Crouse, Opal Buckmiller, Velma Schroeder, Helen Lowe, and Myra Fyler. Melvin is survived by his wife Kay of Boone; two sons, Mark Aspengren of Jefferson, and Michael Aspengren of Clive; a brother Arthur (Norma) Aspengren of Boone; a sister Victoria (Marlond) Davis of Boone; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill (Dee-Dee) Narey, of Waterloo, Bud Thomason of Parker, Colorado, Rita Aspengren of Boone and Rita Narey of Ft. Worth, Texas; and three grandchildren, Amanda (Andy) Melin of Richfield, Minnesota, Abby (Alex) McConnell of Jefferson, and Colby Aspengren of Jefferson.
