He was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Sequim to Adam and Gertrude Agnes Ruth Zeman Baker. He graduated from Sequim High School in 1940. He married Shirley Louise Reinke on April 5, 1947, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2008. He was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Sequim to Adam and Gertrude Agnes Ruth Zeman Baker. He graduated from Sequim High School in 1940. He married Shirley Louise Reinke on April 5, 1947, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2008. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Front, including the Philippines and Japan. He was active in combat and scouting duty and received the Purple Heart. He also was part of the postwar restoration crew in Japan. Mr. Baker was very proud to have spent his whole adult life on the farm on Sequim Bay. Other occupations included owning and operating a sawmill, fisherman, welder, mechanic and logger. His farm was his passion, including the cows. He also enjoyed other animals, fishing and tinkering; he could fix anything. He enjoyed his family, children, practical jokes and dancing with his wife at the Chicken Coop Road dance hall. Mr. Baker was a grand pioneer at the 107th Irrigation Festival in 2002. He is survived by his daughters Jackie Baker of Sequim and Jill Meeker of Rice; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
