Description	:	Son of William Klein and Anna (Hassenbank) Klein. Melvin C. Klein, 93, of Stanwood, Iowa, died Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Prarie Hills Assisted Living in Tipton, after an extended illness. Melvin was born on July 29, 1918 to William Klein and Anna (Hassenbank) Klein on the family farm in Stanwood, Iowa, where he lived for 92 years. Melvin married Agnes Petersen on March 2, 1946 at the Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Iowa. Together they farmed near Stanwood with their family. She died in 2003. Melvin was born on July 29, 1918 to William Klein and Anna (Hassenbank) Klein on the family farm in Stanwood, Iowa, where he lived for 92 years. Melvin married Agnes Petersen on March 2, 1946 at the Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Iowa. Together they farmed near Stanwood with their family. She died in 2003. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Thursday July 5, 2012, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Clarence, Iowa, with Rev. David Mears officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Tuesday at Chapman's Funeral Home in Clarence. Melvin was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, where he was a former church council member, and also served on the board of directors for the Clarence Co-op. Melvin had a passion for farming and especially enjoyed raising cattle and sheep. He also enjoyed horses and had been a member of the Cedar County Saddle Club and White Horse Club, along with still being able to drive tractors as recently as last summer. Melvin and Agnes were also members of the ARC and were instrumental in starting the special education school in Cedar County. Melvin enjoyed watching the Cubs and spending time with his family. He is survived by son William (Robyn) of Kalona; daughters Melanie (Leroy) Van Roekel of Wilton and Brenda Klein of Wellman; granddaughter Ashley Klein of Hiawatha; grandsons Jason (Kim) Van Roekel of Indianapolis, IN, Mark (Kelsie) Van Roekel of West Lafayette, IN, and Adam Klein of Ames; and great-grandson Nikolas Van Roekel of Indianapolis, IN. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Katricia, brother Arnold Klein, and sister Alma Christiansen.
