Description	:	CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Melvin R. Foster, 87, Chula Vista, Calif., formerly of Muscatine, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will be at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. After the burial, a luncheon will be held in the Community Room at the funeral home. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be directed to the Evangelical Free Church, 900 Paseo de Rey, Chula Vista, CA, 91910-6560. Mr. Foster was born on March 29, 1916, in Muscatine, the son of Glen and Eva Negus Foster. He married Florence Bryant. He was a plant supervisor for HON Industries, retiring in 1976. He was an active member of the Evangelical Free Church of Muscatine and Chula Vista. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Susan Birky and her husband, Samuel, of Chula Vista; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Virgil and Merle; a daughter, Carrol Ann Callahan; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth.
