Besides his wife and family, he is survived by a brother, Watson, and four sisters, Celena, Marion, Violet and Jean. He was predeceased by four brothers William, Robert, Bruce and twin brother Lyman. Melvin was a farmer and also began work for the MTC on December 12, 1955. On December 27, 1968 he suffered a stroke which left him disabled and at which time his sons took over operation of the farm. The funeral service was conducted from the Tehkummah Fairview United church by the Reverand (sic) Marvel Neddow of Manitowaning on Thursday April 5, 1979 at 2 p.m. The Pallbearers were brother-in-laws, Floyd and Wayne Martin, Nephew Stephen Martin, friends and neighbours-Randolph Gordon, Bayward Martin and Irwin Duxbury. The ushers were Hubert McGauley and Fred Russell, with the flower car driver by Seward Hall. The many flowers and donations to the heart fund and the United Church gave their silent message of the love and respect which was shown to Melvin. Burial was in the family plot in Hilly Grove Cemetery.
