Her parents were Samuel and Mary Ann (Beaver) Cook, both of whom were natives of Pennsylvania, where their entire lives were passed and had a family of five children: Mrs. Isabelle Alonn, of Pennsylvania; Henry A., who served in the Civil war; Mrs. Anna R. Her parents were Samuel and Mary Ann (Beaver) Cook, both of whom were natives of Pennsylvania, where their entire lives were passed and had a family of five children: Mrs. Isabelle Alonn, of Pennsylvania; Henry A., who served in the Civil war; Mrs. Anna R. Southerland, who resides 3 miles south of Nevada; Melvina; and Mrs. Jennie Eiker, of Pennsylvania. In the spring of 1865 Melvina went to Illinois with a sister and was married there. She was married at Franklin Grove, Illinois, in Oct. 1865, to Jacob R Fetterhoff. The next year the removed to Iowa. The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Fetterhoff was blessed with five children, all born upon the farm in Story county: 1. Anna May, at home; 2. Harvey Grant, who removed to Spokane, Washington, where he died at the age of 34yrs.; 3. Cleo Pearl, at home; 4. Benola Alvin, of Salem, South Dakota, who is married and has three children: Sylva Pearl, Alvin and Ira; 5. Etta, the wife of Peter Matison, who resides on the Fetterhoff farm. Mr. and Mrs. Mattison have children: Orva, Lola, Ona, Harry, Merle, Clyde, Ivan and Glen. Eighteen years after the death of her husband Mrs. Fetterhoff removed to Nevada, where she now makes her home but still retains the ownership of the farm. Payne, Published 1911, page 105] Mrs. Melvina Fetterhoff died suddenly on May 14 at her home in Nevada, Story County, Iowa, aged 76 years. She was born at Baer's Mill near Ellbrook, this county, and removed to Iowa soon after her marriage. She is survived by four children, Mae and Pearl, at home, B. A. of Nevada, Iowa, and Mrs. Etta Brown of South Dakota; also three sisters, Mrs. Anna R. Sutheldand of Nevada, Iowa, Mrs. S. F. Eiker of near Quincy and Mrs. Amanda Fortney of New Franklin.
