He was born Feb. 15, 1926 in Ottumwa, Iowa, to William and Mary Townsley Brooks. He married Ruth Boyd July 15, 1960 in Chicago, Illinois. Read More	Obituary From “The Ottumwa Courier,” February 6, 2006: OTTUMWA – Melvyn LeRoy Brooks, 79, of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Ottumwa died at 6:50 p.m. Feb. 4, 2006, at Vista Woods Care Center. He was born Feb. 15, 1926 in Ottumwa, Iowa, to William and Mary Townsley Brooks. He married Ruth Boyd July 15, 1960 in Chicago, Illinois. A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1943, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He lived in Colorado Springs from 1966 until moving back to Ottumwa in 2006. He was a real estate broker in Ottumwa and Colorado Springs and managed Chase Stone Center now called Palmer Center in Colorado Springs. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Colorado Springs and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and camping extensively with his wife. Surviving are his wife, Ruth; a sister, Helen (Bob) Burns of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Don Brooks of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Ottumwa; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruthann Yeoman Rockett. Funeral mass will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary of the Visitation with Rev. Bernie Weir officiating. Entombment will be in Shrine of Memories Mausoleum. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Visitation will begin after 1 p.m. today at the Reece Funeral Home. A Christian Wake service will be at 7 p.m. today at Reece Funeral Home followed by family visitation until 8:30 p.m. today.
