Obituary From "The Ottumwa Courier," December 11, 2006: OTTUMWA – Ruth Agnes Brooks, 92, Vista Woods Care Center, formerly of Colorado Springs, died at 6 p.m. December 9, 2006 at Vista Woods Care Center. She was born July 2, 1914 in Kansas City, Kansas to Maurice Edwin and Sara Elizabeth O'Malley Boyd. She married Melvyn Brooks, July 15, 1960 at the Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death February 4, 2006. She was a graduate of Ottumwa High School and the American Institute of Business. She worked for 23 years for John Morrell and Company as a secretary in Ottumwa and Chicago. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colorado Springs. Surviving are three nephews: John Della Vedova of Norwalk, Rick Della Vedova of St. Paul, MN and Larry Della Vedova of Cary, IL.; a brother-in-law Dominic Della Vedova of Davenport. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Della Vedova and Margaret Corum. Funeral Mass will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary of the Visitation with Rev. John Spiegel officiating. Entombment will be at Shrine of Memories Mausoleum. Visitation will begin 10 a.m. today at the Reece Funeral Home with family present from 6:30-8 p.m. today. Christian Wake services will be 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Visitation.
