Melwon Henry Huber was born Jan. 22, 1922, to Albert and Hatti (Guenthner) Huber on an Otter Creek farm in Oliver County. He was baptized and confirmed at Otter Creek Lutheran Church. Raised on the farm, he attended Spring Brook Country School, grades one through eight. He also took some accounting courses through correspondence. Melwon helped on the family farm and also helped his uncle drill wells. Melwon met his future wife, Ella Weil, at a local barn dance and were married on Nov. 25, 1943, at Zion Lutheran Church in Beulah. They farmed a short while at Otter Creek and then moved to Beulah, where he worked for Knife River Coal underground mining. He also worked on the Garrison Dam Spillway construction. He then worked for Farmers Union Oil for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He fixed many furnaces, washers, dryers, as well as set up grain bins and hauled propane, making friends for miles outside the community. When Farmers Union became Cenex, he was a manger of the Cenex hardware store. He also served as financial secretary of Concordia Lutheran Church for 20 years. In retirement, he was president of the Beulah Senior Citizens Club for many years as well as a member of Germans From Russia. Melwon and Ella also worked for Seibel Funeral Home as greeters. He delighted in his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends. Melwon took pride in his yard and garden, enjoyed woodworking, word puzzles, fishing, playing pool and games with family and friends. Ella passed away in May 2004 and Melwon entered the Knife River Care Center in December 2007. Melwon will always be remembered for his good nature, humor, generosity and for helping anyone in need. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Melvia (Don) Renner, Beulah, and Janella (James) Hausauer, Halliday; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Idell (Norman) Albers, Bismarck, and Belljean (Tony) Privratsky, Amity, Ore.; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Lloyd (Emma) Huber and Betty Huber, Hazen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Melwon was preceded in death by his wife, Ella; his parents; and two brothers, Vernon and Arles.
