Description	:	Mercy L. West was born at Morristown, Pa., July 18, 1822. She received her education in the schools of Philadelphia, to which city her parents had moved before she became of school age. After completing her education she moved with her parents to Anderson, Ind., where she was married to Robert D. Tyson May 9, 1840. Eight children were born to them, five of whom are still living - Mrs. Jennie Dorcas, of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. John F. Dorcas, of Spencer, Iowa; Miss Carrie H. Tyson and Mrs. Rachel E. Plummer of Holton and F. W. Tyson of Mead, Colo.... Read More	Mercy L. West was born at Morristown, Pa., July 18, 1822. She received her education in the schools of Philadelphia, to which city her parents had moved before she became of school age. After completing her education she moved with her parents to Anderson, Ind., where she was married to Robert D. Tyson May 9, 1840. Eight children were born to them, five of whom are still living - Mrs. Jennie Dorcas, of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. John F. Dorcas, of Spencer, Iowa; Miss Carrie H. Tyson and Mrs. Rachel E. Plummer of Holton and F. W. Tyson of Mead, Colo. The family moved to Kansas in the year 1872, settling near Seneca, where they remained a number of years. In 1883 they moved to Holton, where they have resided ever since. Mrs. Tyson in her early days was a member of the Quaker church, but in the year 1862 united with the Seventh Day Adventist church and remained a devout member until her death. For the last 15 years she has been an invalid .... She died April 24, 1919, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carrie H. Tyson, Holton, Kansas, at the age of 96 years, 9 months and 6 days .... laid to rest in the beautiful Holton cemetery by the side of her husband who preceded her thirty-two years ago.
