Description	:	Meredith Franklin Crist was born May 15, 1911. He was the first grandchild of James and Mary Crist. His parent’s home was in Sterling, Colorado where Meredith got his early education. He was awarded a scholarship to a Denver Art College when he graduated from high school. Meredith was a talented artist, he had a great voice and was active in Sterling’s little theater group. Meredith married Ella Rosalie Lutzmann on September 14, 1931. She was born March 11, 1912, the daughter of a first generation immigrant family. Meredith and Ella were married at the depth of the Great Depression. When he graduated from Denver Art School, they returned to Sterling where they worked every available job to survive. In 1934, Meredith went to work for a creamery in Sterling which he later purchased from the owner along with the adjoining apartment complex at 1751 Gilpin Street. The family moved to apartment #8 where they lived for the remainder of their stay in Sterling. Ella had taken evening classes at the local junior college and assumed the bookkeeping responsibility for this business. Meredith gave great credit to his hard-working wife and son for the success of this business venture. About 1969, in the interest of progress, Meredith and Ella sold their businesses to make way for a railroad overpass. They moved to 2466 Virgo Drive in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Meredith used his art training to teach at a college level and continued in this endeavor until shortly before his death in his 82nd year. Meredith died on November 22, 1993 and Ella died on June 26, 2003. They were buried in the Fleming Cemetery, Sterling, Colorado.--Family history written by first cousins, Bessie Hart and Helen Witt __________ Meredith Crist, Sr., 82, an eggs and cream buyer for Meadow Gold Dairies in Sterling, who was honored for buying the largest volume of cream in a five-state region, died November 22, 1993 at a local hospital. The funeral will be held at 10 am Wednesday at Nolan Funeral Home 225 North Weber Street. Private burial is planned. Friends may call from noon to 8 pm today at the funeral home. Mr. Crist was born May 5, 1911 in Sterling to Franklin and Charlotte “Lottie” Clements Adams Crist. He was married September 4, 1931 in Kimball, Nebraska to Ella R. Lutzmann Crist who survives. He is also survived by a son, Meredith F. Jr. of Peyton; six grandchildren and a great grandson. He had a brother, Winford; a sister Eula Mae; and his step-father, Clarence Kahn, who are deceased. Mr. Crist was an artist, teaching for Widefield School District 3, The Colorado Springs Park and Recreation Department and the Colorado Springs Senior Center.
