Description	:	RITES HELD FOR MEREDITH KAUSEN Funeral services were held today at Sunset Mausoleum for Meredith Kausen, one of Eureka's long-time automobile salesmen and dealers, who died Monday. Mr. Kausen was a native of Waddington in the Eel River Valley, born Oct. 23, 1898. He received his education in Ferndale, and served in the armed forces during World War I. Read More	RITES HELD FOR MEREDITH KAUSEN Funeral services were held today at Sunset Mausoleum for Meredith Kausen, one of Eureka's long-time automobile salesmen and dealers, who died Monday. Mr. Kausen was a native of Waddington in the Eel River Valley, born Oct. 23, 1898. He received his education in Ferndale, and served in the armed forces during World War I. After the war he returned to Humboldt County to work the E. J. Dodge Lumber Mill at Newburg. In 1922 he operated the M. Kausen general merchandise store at Pepperwood. Mr. Kausen got his start in the automobile business in 1923, a career that was to last over 40 years. He worked for Axel Hermansen and then Charles Green Co., in Eureka, selling Chalmers, Maxwell, Durant and Star automobiles until 1929 when he operated an Oldsmobile dealership at Seventh and I Streets. Like many others in that period, financial reverses put him out of the dealership and he turned to the operation of the Bernardi Service Station at Fourth and M Streets. In 1945 he returned to selling automobiles, operating as Kausen Motors Oldsmobile-Cadillac dealership at Seventh and G streets and later relocated on Seventh between C and D streets, until 1958, when he left to become sales manager for Frontier Motors Lincoln-Mercury. In 1962 he assumed the same position at Harper Ford where he remained until his retirement in August 1972. Not content with idleness, he assisted in the establishment of the Mazda dealership on North Highway 101. Mr. Kausen leaves his wife, Blythe Kausen of Eureka; sons, Meredith Kausen Jr., Ferndale, and Robert Kausen of Rio Vista; brother, Ronald Kausen, and sister Etta Kausen Reynolds of Eureka; grandchildren, Michael Kausen of Eureka and Kristi Kausen of Ferndale. He has one great-granddaughter, Misty Dawn Kausen of Eureka, as well as numerous other relative.
