She grew up in the Sabetha area and attended the local schools. Merle was engaged in work in banks in Sabetha for most of her working career, having worked for the Farmers State Bank for many years. Read More	THE SABETHA HERALD — WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5, 1980 MERLE ALTHOUSE Merle Althouse, the daughter of Charles and Pauline Elizabeth Mitchell Althouse, was born near Sabetha, Kansas on June 3, 1902. She grew up in the Sabetha area and attended the local schools. Merle was engaged in work in banks in Sabetha for most of her working career, having worked for the Farmers State Bank for many years. She was a faithful employee and assisted many people with their personal banking. Merle retired from work in 1973 and enjoyed being with her friends. She was a long time member of the Sabetha United Methodist Church and the Sabetha Business & Professional Women’s Club. Preceding her in death were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Althouse and her brother Gale Althouse. She is survived by one niece. Death came unexpectedly February 29, 1980, in her home from an apparent heart attack. Services were held at Popkess Mortuary, March 4, 1980, with Reverend Calvin Dickinson officiating. Mrs. W R. Popkess, organist, accompanied Ruth Kellenberger, soloist, in "The Lord's Prayer" and "In the Garden." Serving as casket bearers were Eldon Aberle, Frank Althouse, George Althouse, Greg Mock. Lester Niehues and Jim Torrey. The interment was made in the Sabetha Cemetery in the family plot.
