Description	:	LOUP CITY — Merle A. Glinsmann, 89, of Loup City died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City with the Rev. Shawn Kitzing officiating. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Ashton. Survivors include his wife; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Max Ford of Wheaton, Mo., and Judy and Dave Hughes of Hazard; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Cathy Glinsmann of Ashton; daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Scott Walrath of Loup City; son, Mike Glinsmann of Loup City; daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Greg Kotas of Loup City and Tina and Shane Peterson of Axtell; grandson and spouse, Jamie and Missi Glinsmann of Roca; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Gerald Carkoski of Grand Island; 24 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, A.H. and Marian Glinsmann of Rapid City, S.D., David and Arlene Glinsmann of Rockville, Donald and Rachel Glinsmann of Ord and Wendell and Frances Glinsmann of Rockville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Dallas Neiderklein of Tobias, Shirley Ficken of Elkhorn and Ethel and Dale Rasmussen of Windsor, Colo.; brother-in-law, Pete Hendrix of Wheaton; and sisters-in-law, Darlene Glinsmann of Luzerne, Iowa, and Jo Felker of Ord. He attended school in Ashton and graduated from Ashton High School in 1942 as the valedictorian. He attended Grand Island Business College and then returned home to farm with his father. He later worked for Charles Kearny Dairy in Morrill where he met the love of his life, Virginia Brumberg. He and Virginia married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City. They farmed near Ashton and raised cattle and hogs. In the fall and winter, he worked for American Crystal Sugar Co. in Grand Island. After he retired from farming, he worked for Wentworth Agri Service and Buffalo Air, both in Loup City. Merle was active in his community and served on the Ashton School Board, Central Nebraska Community Service Board and Farm Bureau Board. He started the first 4-H club in Ashton and was a 4-H leader for many years. He loved visiting with others and was always willing to help any way he could. He also loved gardening and sold his produce at the Loup City Farmers Market. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ervin; great-granddaughter, Addison Royer; brother-in-law, Gene Ficken; and sister-in-law, Judi Hendrix.
