Read More	From the Longmont (CO) Times Call, Wednesday, December 12, 1980: MERLE EDWARD BROWN Merle Edward Brown of Grand Island, Neb., died on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 1990, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Neb. He was 78. Born Aug. 9, 1912, in Merrick County Neb., he was the son of Archie and Ida Evalina Litten Brown. He graduated from Clarks High School in 1931. On Jan. 6, 1936, in Central City, Neb., he and Jane Gray were married. The couple moved to Laramie, Wyo., until 1947 when they returned to the Central City area to farm. They retired to Grand Island in 1971. Mr. Brown was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church; Eagles Aerie No. 378; Platt-Duetsche, where he loved dancing; Central City Sportsman Club, where he was a trapshooter; he loved to play poker; and he directed the railroad at Stuhr Museum for many years. He was preceded in death by one son, Richard, in 1986; two sisters and one brother. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of Grand Island; three sisters, Margaret Persons and Martha Packer, both of Central City, and Alice Davidson of Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandchildren, including Debbie Kemis and her husband, Stewart, of Longmont; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Solt Funeral Home of Central City, Neb., was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Central City Cemetery.
