Merle Norman, the son of Melvin and Gena (Stinerson) Anderson, was born January 17, 1928 in Clermont, Iowa. He attended country school after his family moved to a dairy farm four and a half miles west of Clermont. Merle worked for a couple of area farmers as a young man before returning to the family farm when his brother entered the military. Merle stayed on the farm his entire life. He was known for the registered Brown Swiss cows he milked. Merle... Read More	Merle Anderson, 88, of Clermont, Iowa died Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union, Iowa. Merle Norman, the son of Melvin and Gena (Stinerson) Anderson, was born January 17, 1928 in Clermont, Iowa. He attended country school after his family moved to a dairy farm four and a half miles west of Clermont. Merle worked for a couple of area farmers as a young man before returning to the family farm when his brother entered the military. Merle stayed on the farm his entire life. He was known for the registered Brown Swiss cows he milked. Merle loved riding and farming with horses. He looked forward to the quarterly edition of “Draft Horse Journal”, or as he referred to the magazine, his “Bible”. Merle was united in marriage with June Lee Miller on September 20, 1959 at the First Baptist Church in West Union, Iowa. To this union, two children were born. June preceded him in death on April 4, 2001. Merle enjoyed reading, spending time with family and friends, a good horse, and a good dog. He also enjoyed helping his son, Eric, on the farm and helping FFA and 4H kids with showing cattle. Merle is survived by his son, Eric Anderson of Clermont, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews. Merle was preceded in death by his wife, June; his daughter, Edie Ann, who died in 1967; his parents; and his brother, Gene Anderson. Visitation will be Thursday, Fe bruary 25, 2016 from 4-7 pm at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin, Iowa and also one hour before services at the church on Friday. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, February 26, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Elgin, Iowa with Rev. Lee Boleyn as the Officiant. Burial will follow at Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, Iowa.
