Description	:	Merle May, Farmer of Harrison Township, Killed By Lightning Merle May, 42 year old Harrison township farmer, was struck by lightning, and killed instantly, during the storm of Thursday, May 18. Read More	Merle May, Farmer of Harrison Township, Killed By Lightning Merle May, 42 year old Harrison township farmer, was struck by lightning, and killed instantly, during the storm of Thursday, May 18. Mr. May's death was not discovered until early Friday morning, when neighbors of the family started out to search for him, after he had failed to return home. May had been plowing with a tractor in a field about a mile and a half from his home when the storm came up. When he did not return home in the evening, the family assumed he had gone to a neighbor to take shelter from the rain. The area has been without telephone service for some time, and it was not possible for Mrs. May to contact anyone to inquire if her husband had been seen. When he failed to return home the next morning, she became alarmed, and notified neighbors, who began the search. He was found lying beside his tractor, and indications were that he had been operating the vehicle at the time he was struck by the bolt. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Methodist church in Orient, and burial made in the Orient cemetery. Mr. May was born in Hand county, and spent his entire life on the farm where he was living at the time of his death. He was married to Miss Mary Creagh, and they were the parents of five children. Surviving his death are the widow, four daughters, Mary Jo, 11, Patty, 10, Jean, 6, Geraldine, 2, and one son, Bobby, 9, and his mother, who has been making her home with the family.
