Born in Clarence Ridge N.B. on November 23, 1929, he was a son of the late Herman and Estella (Beney) Stewart. A loving father and grandfather, Merlin is survived by : one son Brian and his wife Jane of Blacks Harbour, three daughters: Karen (Russell) Sawler of Dieppe N.B., Kimberly Stewart and Gail (Jeff) Gaudett both of Blacks Harbour, four grandchildren: Reba, Brandon, Christy and Russ, one sister Doris Stewart of Blacks Harbour, three brothers: Alvin (Rena) of Blacks Harbour, Lawrence (Freda) and Kenneth (Shirley) both of Pennfield as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his loving wife Bernice, who passed away on November 21, 2002, Merlin was predeceased by one brother: Clarence, two sisters: Florence and Annie. Prior to his retirement, Merlin had been employed by Connors Brothers in Blacks Harbour for 48 years as a truck driver and mechanic. He spent his retirement years around his home with his family and friends. He enjoyed his drives in his truck and especially spending time with his grandchildren Reba and Brandon. Resting at the Wesleyan Church in Blacks Harbour where the service will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m., followed by interment in the Pennfield Rural Cemetery. Visiting at the Church on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In Merlins memory, donations may be made to the N.B. Heart and Stroke Association, Canadian Diabetes Assoc. or a charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements are in the care of the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George N.B.
